Well, I'm more than willing to contribute what I've done with my script if it helps at all.

Mine's written in Perl and the part I stopped at was how to use tcprobe/tcscan/whatever to find out the exact details about the source material (like bitrate, for example... sometimes, the source uses VBR, so you have to fudge the average bitrate by using running-time and the size of the file... *minus* how much is used by the audio program(s)).
