I've read this whole thread. My take on this:  The bottom line is (after  
watching many Richard Stallman interviews, and others) it's all about power  
and control.  The free software movement and people who support it like  
Trisquel community members, like myself, ultimately want the end user (the  
consumer sitting at home) to be in 100% control of his computer &  
applications.  There is no money to be made from ads when I can block all ads  
and I'm in 100% control.   Developers don't want to walk away from jobs where  
they make good money, who can blame them?  Most everyday computer users have  
NO CLUE about the value of the free software movement. When I quiz other  
people, they say, "I'm lost..." or something akin to that. Consumers  
obviously do not even care they are in digital handcuffs, and this must be  
stopped. I saw an article today about a Mesquite school district in Texas  
giving 4th graders Ipads!!  This is indoctrination of the young to use  
computing devices that enslave them. And this trend is growing and will  
continue to grow.  The only solution I see is to get some wealthy people  
involved in funding all free distros.  But where is the profit return for  
them? This problem has to have a solution somewhere, somehow.  I think what  
Richard Stallman says is very valuable and profoundly true.  We have to be in  
100% control of our computers. It seems to be a dilemma with no solution  
unless profound changes occur in the capitalist system, that's the real  
issue.
