This is still my opinion, but after thinking about the whole discussion some of my attitudes have changed: Whenever a producer of proprietary software implements malicious features without anyone knowing it, that's just normal life! Most of them do. But when a distro maker takes a free program and adds malicious code silently, that's almost a crime, it's really bad. Free software will never be able to prevent us from all forms of criminal energy. Does your notebook store implement a small gps transimitter? Very unlikely, but no free software can avoid this. Free software can contain security lacks, too. In theory, it's possible to become a victim of malware...

So, yes, it's necessary to trust someone, whether you use free software or not. And I think it's important to minimize this amount of trust, but it's not the huge problem I thought at first.
