I recognize that the attacks on our freedom and privacy by the hardware companies increase rapidly and it gets more and more complicated to buy a pc which respects our freedom. I'm not into all those things that deep like chris and many others of you, but I heard a lot about vpro, treacherous computing, non-free bioses, restrictions concerning wlan cards and hardware companies starting imposing restrictions on many parts of the hardware (there was this rms speech at libreplanet 2013).

Furthermore, the free software movement has to face a lot of problems.
There are very few people who use "linux" (I use this expression consciously so I express their views) compared to the majority of mac und windows users, and among those "linux" users, the believers in free software and the users of "gnu/linux" are an extremely tiny fraction.

I don't see any other possibility than building our own pc.
Making sacrifices is good, but we can't do this to infinity. We can't tell people to use a yeeloong and abandon cell phones, and even for ourselves this is not a good solution. At the moment, spreading the word of free software and privacy is hard, because you have to put in much effort for someone who is really interested. It would be much simpler if we could say to him: go, buy this pc next time. It respects your freedom 100%.
We wouldn't have to tell him about avoiding this wifi chip and this cpu.

I know the yeeloong is old and slow, but if it were available in germany for an adequate price, I would consider buying one as my next pc, hearing all this.
