I'm not sure what kind of conflict you see in these statements of mine.

The Mormons teach others to have faith in Jesus Christ. I agree with
this statement. It is true doctrine.

On the other hand, Mormons generally have a different idea of what faith
is than I do. They tend to look at faith as intellectual, in my
opinion. But I've known many evangelicals to take the same approach.
For example, Presbyterians do this, and I think even Jed Smock tends to
think of faith more like an intellectual decision based upon accepted
facts. So for these, they look at faith as something of the mind
whereas I look at faith as something of the heart, something which
includes trust and confidence in an unseen person, Jesus Christ.

Something else Mormons do is that they add faith in Joseph Smith as well
as faith in Jesus Christ. That is one thing I mean by saying that their
faith is misplaced. In my opinion, a person can reject Joseph Smith and
still have a very good relationship with Christ. In their opinion,
anyone who rejects Joseph Smith is not part of the restored church, and
even those who accept Joseph Smith but reject the LDS organization, they
are also outside the covenant because they are not part of the restored
church. Their faith is in their religion and their religious structure
rather than in the man Christ Jesus. So while they teach men to believe
in Jesus Christ, it is kind of like how the Pharisees taught men to
revere Abraham and Moses. What they say and what they do are at odds
with one another, and they also add much to what is really holy and
true, just as the Pharisees did.

Peace be with you.
