Similar paw size is irrelevant, Dean. The coon's paw simply adds to the diameter. The rock simply needs to be very close to the size of the hole, so that when the paw grabs it, it cannot be withdrawn through the hole while holding the rock. Whether the paw itself is large or small does not matter. It simply needs to add enough to the diameter of the rock that the rock with the paw around it cannot be pulled back through the hole.
