Persistent Layer : who already used it ?

I am a newbie and I'd like to use the Persistent Layer in
org.apache.turbine.opl.* packages as describe in Scott Amber document.
I already read it (twice in fact).
It seems to be great but a bit tricky

My question is : does anyone already used it and could give me a simple
example ?
