Not all of it is CBS-directed. The reason why Jason Ritter was scheduled to
appear Monday, Tuesday, and this evening was because Craig went long with the
other guests each night.

His two week vacation was actually three, because of pre-taping. Of course,
had he not said anything, it might not have been noticed.

Then again, he was able to apparently do live shows very close to his July 4th
hosting for CBS for the same reason.

He made some noise about a signed contract on Monday's show. I think he has a
six-year deal, and that sixth year would be 2010.

Very interesting. I don't watch many daytime talkers anymore, but I don't
recall getting that jarring feeling that something was off (with pretaped
segments) that you get with Craig. Part of it is that Craig makes fun of it
so often. Maybe part of it is that we expect a lot of topicality with
late-night talkers? Joking about the day's events seems de rigueur at
night, when daytime folks don't do that so much?

I just hope CBS realizes they have a gem in Craig, and keep him around for
as long as he wants to do a show.....
