I watched it this morning when I woke up (I spend my prime time Olympic
viewing watching Curling I record during the day). I heard the NBC guys
apologize for the language, but when I rewound it, all I could hear them
saying was "fricking" and "frick". I assumed there was some other obscenity
that they censored for the more innocent ears out here on the West Coast,
but I thought it was odd that these guys would use such a circumlocution
like "fricken" and then go ahead and use actual cuss words. The article
above seems to suggest that maybe NBC actually dubbed in "fricken" instead
of "fucking" - can that possibly be right? I don't think I have ever heard
of a network doing anything like that - what, did they have White and his
coach come into the studio for a frickin ADR session? The article suggests
that the bad words were more difficult to make out on the West Coast - maybe
my old ears just missed them - though I am sure I did hear them say
"frickin".

The whole thing is ridiculous of course - either don't put a live mike on
athletes in that situation, or don't worry about an occasional stray F-bomb.
OTOH, the Curlers have live mikes during the heat of battle, and the
dirtiest thing you hear from them is a pretty girl screaming "HAAAAAAAAAARD"
- after she has not put enough weight on the rock, which I kind of like.
