I was surprised by how enjoyable most of the show was, even if the running bits -- like the questions to the nominees -- got squeezed out by the deadline. And I did miss the talk show writers' reels. (I saw the one from the Conan staff this morning, and enjoyed it).
I have no interest in Glee and was delighted that I didn't recognize any of the kids or Kate Gosselin -- and only identified her when they called her by name. Is the throwing of drinks a running gag? Oh, my sides. I agree something seemed off with the telecast; it was a dead room to the point where I couldn't tell if Hodgman's material was dying as badly as it seemed it was. (It was almost as bad at the Twitter feeds -- which pointed out why you need professional writers). Don't get me wrong; I like Hodgman, but this was not A-material. It seemed odd to me that Modern Family got so much play on NBC. I can see them plugging one of their own series (30 Rock would have been a natural here, and might have boosted its ratings), but an ABC show? I guess those "Community" car ads took that role, but did I not love the show already, those wouldn't have persuaded me to watch. Breaking Bad is indeed a fantastic show, and has only gotten better each season -- and in particular, this season, where each episode kept getting better -- especially the final three or four. All in all, a decent evening, even if I don't have any stake -- or care, really -- in who won. --Dave Sikula -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
