WaPo's Plum Line blog now asking whether KO even violated any rules in
the first place:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/11/did_olbermann_even_violate_nbc_1.html

Highlight: "Odder still, an anonymous NBC insider told Gawker that
it's common knowledge within the organization that MSNBC's left-
leaning personalities aren't necessarily required to follow NBC News
rules. That makes sense, since MSNBC is pushing the envelope
politically in a way NBC, obviously, isn't."

Hopefully this will be a wakeup call to those behind MSNBC (NBC, GE,
Kabletown...Microsoft?) that they can't have it both ways. They can
either have a non-partisan cable news operation, or they can have a
cable news network that serves as a less-crazy progressive
counterpoint to FOX Noise. And look how being non-partisan has worked
out for CNN over the last 10 years.

The kicker in all this is that MSNBC finally has a complete,
compelling primetime schedule (except on Fridays, when Happy Fun
Prison Time kicks in after Maddow). The network has been struggling
for the better part of a decade to be competitive in primetime, and
they finally have the lineup they need. Now is NOT the time to
penalize your progressive commentators (I'm lumping Hayes in here as
well, since he's been pulled as KO's replacement for violating the
same 'rules') for putting their money where their mouths are -
especially when their counterparts up the dial are doing far worse,
and Roger Ailes is looking the other way.

M-D
Leaning forward.
