Idol thoughts:

In terms of entertainment value, Tyler is no replacement for Simon Cowell.
Cowell really was the show, both in terms of appearing to be an expert on
the music business and saying what he thought of the contestants in as few
words as possible.

Idol needs to be careful that Tyler doesn't appear to be hitting on the
sixteen-year-old girls. Looks like there was heavy editing in that
department.

Jennifer Lopez was way too aware of the camera. Every time the camera was
on her, her main mission seemed to be not to communicate with the
contestants, but to tell the viewing audience "look, how pretty I am."

Subject: [TV orNotTV] 2011 American Idol

I'm surprised no one else has started a thread. I'll start.

I've got mixed feelings about the American Idol reboot. I liked Steven Tyler
much more than I thought I would. He had good charisma and some funny
moments. Jennifer Lopez is supposed to be the soft squishy, warm cuddly
center and I think she pretty much sucked. I have no idea what Randy Jackson
was trying to do. I liked him before because he didn't seem to be trying to
be too hip. That school boy outfit was just too much.

On the one hand, I liked much of the show that I watched (I tuned out after
9:30 p.m. because I have to get up early in the morning).

But then it's nothing we haven't seen before. Ten times.

I don't think the new cast is going to get traction with viewers. Unless
they come up with something new and different. The show has jumped the
shark.
