Ryan Seacrest didn't come guns-a-blazin' into America's radio stations demanding that local hosts be replaced by his syndicated pap. Station owners invited him in, hoping for name-brand consistency and a professional air product at a relatively low price Blame the economic reality of a shrinking ad market and the need for lower fixed costs just to stay on the air. Blame the owner who doesn't want to invest in developing new talent just to find it across the street or down the road in six months. Blame the broadcasters all across the country who have replaced their local programming with satellite-fed shows, voice tracking, and hard-drive automation. The "no minor leagues" problem is bad in music radio but it's critical in talk radio. The stations that developed the current crop of talkers now carry those same folks... broadcast nationally from their studios in New York or Florida. WVNN (770 AM, Athens, Alabama) was once a station that gave Sean Hannity a break and propelled him to the major markets. Now 21 hours a day is syndicated... including Sean Hannity. -- Ed Dravecky III former washed up disc jockey -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
