ya of cource they are atleast some of them. like x264 give best
quality with smallest file size. now u ripp a dvd movie with xvid and
again with x264 now see both video quality and size . you will find
the difference. no 1 force a ripper the choose the better.

but making a format popular is not easy. its content that makes a
format popular now . u see there are too many content like movies
other videos are either xvid(avi) x264(mp4,mkv) or flv.

so its up to content provider .
