Now I understand: »Buddys« is the correct upstream translation. Sorry, I didn't know that since we usually try to avoid anglicisms. I updated these strings in Launchpad to the upstream translations:

However in the context of instant messengers »Kontakte« reflects the meaning of »Buddies« quite well, is comprehensible for everyone and sounds just more serious. Besiides my Ubuntu contributions I am also involved in the German GNOME translation teams and we had some discussions about that. Finally we decide to use »Kontakte« in all GNOME applications an especially in empathy. But maybe we just follow diifferent guidelines. Anyway, I hope I were able to fix this according to your expectations.
