1) When did I say anything depends on upstart.logd?
2) this is not academic, it leads to a real problem Jaunty->Karmic

Alright, so first you claim "these packages *have been* removed", now it
is "they *will* get cleaned up". Still, you maintain that the upstart-
logd and upstart-compat-sysv packages as currently shipped(!) being
uninstallable is invalid when it doesn't take a genius to verify the
claim is true and valid. Removing them from the archive is a large part
of fixing this ticket and marking as fix released. But I think upstart
probably should conflict/replace with upstart-logd if upstart is the
package taking over the functionality. Right now, the user and aptitude
is left guessing what package is now providing the functionality or why
that functionality isn't necessary anymore.

Maybe you will finally understand that there is a real issue here when I
describe what I experienced which may trip an ordinary user.
Unfortunately, I have my doubts since it seems to have become an ego
thing for you now since even though you acknowledge that there are
things left to be done ("will be removed") you still continue to close
as invalid.

I used to have upstart, upstart-compat-sysv and upstart-logd installed
when I was running Jaunty. I didn't just have them for fun, but because
I thought they were providing a functionality I was looking for. Of
course, on the dist-upgrade when aptitude said that a package was
broken, I looked closer into the issue. Karmic was still shipping both
upstart-logd and upstart-sysv-compat. I don't think it's too far-
fetched to deduct from that that the plan is to continue to ship both
packages but that they just haven't been updated, yet. What I did is
thus to hold all upstart packages at the Jaunty versions (which led to a
bunch of problems).

If a package I really want (not automatically installed in my case!) is
scheduled to be removed, I want to know another package will take over
its place or at the very least, I want to understand why it's not
obsoleted. In the case of upstart-logd, I still don't know.
