TH Tan, thank you for testing the mainline kernel. Regarding your comments
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1073442/comments/68 :
>"Post#46 line 5 "Once you've tested the upstream kernel,..." what do you mean
>by upstream kernel?"

Upstream = mainline.

>"For example ubuntu12.10 was released on 17October2012 with linux
kernel library module version 3.5.0-17-generic"

The linux kernel that comes with Ubuntu by default is not the
mainline/upstream kernel, but the Ubuntu/downstream one.

>"you mean use linux kernel library module version 3.6 or later than
17October2012? is this correct?"

As you tested v3.6-quantal this would be sufficient.

Regarding
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1073442/comments/69 :
>"Thanks alot. I am able to reboot 10 times with no problem now. You are great!
>Thanks again."

Glad the boot problem is addressed with the mainline kernel.

>"I would like to do basic functional tests on some of the peripheral
ports like USB2 or USB3 port or eSATAp port or Firewire port for the
next few days. I need to borrow these devices from others and connect to
hp8560w to do basic functional tests. I will write to you again on the
results after testing. I just want to check that the device drivers are
present."

While that is great you are willing to do such tests, this bug report is
the wrong forum for providing the results of them. This bug report is
only focused on the boot problem.

>"Hello Christopher, Though the volume bar is at the centre, there was
no sound during reboot. When the volume bar is near to maximum position,
the sound then appears. Anything wrong with the sound routine?"

In addition to this bug report only focusing on the boot problem, as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds#Kernel.2BAC8-FAQ.2BAC8-DebuggingMainlineBuildsSupport.Does_the_kernel_team_support_the_mainline_kernel_builds.3F
no support is offered for problems using the mainline kernel.

Thank you for your understanding.
