Well it is a hard drive, an 80GB Maxtor SATA Diamond Max Plus 9 with all partitions removed. It just happens to be connected via a USB adapter, but otherwise it is capable of being installed into a PC as it is and being booted from. If I could remove the internal drive and connect this in it's place it would boot up.
