Fully agree with above comment - I've KabyLake hardware and now cannot load GuC file on Ubuntu 18.04 with kernel from distribution (the same was with Ubuntu 16.04). Have to choose - use mainline kernel without many useful patches but with ability to load GuC or use distribution- provided kernel with all these patches but without ability to load GuC.
