ok, i can confirm, that making the changes that you specified above does allow me to get sound!!!!!
The only problem that I have is that I have been unable to compile linux-restricted-modules. If someone can get this done we'll be golden. Also, I would try to attach the patch to the kernel, but I don't know how?
