@juliank, here is the analysis and where the oom comes from. nvidia-driver-580 ships GSP firmware (gsp_ga10x 73 MB + gsp_tu10x 30 MB) -> `framebuffer-nvidia` hook unconditionally copies nvidia*.ko into the initrd -> `add_firmware()` follows the modules' `firmware:` tags and copies both blobs -> initrd 121 MB -> ~300 MB (blobs are near-incompressible) -> GRUB `grub_verifiers_open()` does one ~300 MB `grub_malloc`, which on x86_64-efi must be satisfied below 2 GB physical (GRUB_EFI_MAX_ALLOCATION_ADDRESS = 0x7fffffff), and that region is fragmented by firmware reservations on these AMD+NVIDIA boards -> allocation fails -> `error: out of memory.` before kernel handoff
