Public bug reported:
What happens: If I don't move the mouse during login, then after I reach the
desktop the pointer icon stays frozen on screen. The mouse still works: I can
click and interact with things, but I can't see the cursor move. If I move the
mouse during login, the pointer works normally.
System:
Ubuntu 26.04, GNOME Shell 50.1, Mutter 50.1-0ubuntu2.4
Session: Wayland
Hybrid laptop: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 (proprietary driver 595.99.02) plus AMD
Radeon 680M
PRIME mode: on-demand
nvidia_drm modeset=Y and fbdev=Y
What I already tried (no fix):
Disabled hardware cursors with MUTTER_DEBUG_DISABLE_HW_CURSORS=1. The log
confirms it's active.
Set the AMD GPU as Mutter's primary GPU with a udev rule. The log confirms
card2 selected primary.
Logs: No cursor-related errors in journalctl or the GDM logs, only harmless
geolocation and xkbcomp warnings.
Similar reports: Other people report cursor stutter or freezing with Mutter 50
and NVIDIA 595 drivers on Wayland.
