If you have 3GB RAM and only a 256MB video card then it should be showing more than 1.9GB RAM free. You should probably update your motherboard BIOS if you haven't already. If you still have problems with it showing only 1.9GB RAM after that you might want to file a kernel bug report. Do you see the full 3GB RAM on any other OS, or have you only tried Ubuntu?
