It shows up correctly in windows vista. Could it have anything to do with virtual box? I assigned 1GB RAM for that and that's about the same as the amount missing. It might, also, just be a coincidence as I had recently added 2GBs and had not checked before installing virtualbox. I have uninstalled it as of now and also removed its kernel modules.
I will check my BIOS settings for apertures and memory holes.
