will it automatically detect my tvcard? ive tried mplayer and that
doesnt!!!and xawtv seems not very good...doesnt have automatic channel
scanning for a start!

Have a look at tvtime - you should be able to install it through synaptic.
I
haven't used my tv card in a long time, but I remember that program being
pretty slick, and nicer that xawtv.
