Also depends if Greg created a separate /home partition.

Greg, can you see your data in your home directory when you boot from a 
Live CD?

If I remember correctly it should detect your hard drive under places 
(it may list it as a drive, in my case Ubuntu detects my Windows 
partition as "62.9GB media").  If you see something like that and go 
into it, then go into the home folder you should see your home directory 
in there, with any luck you should be able to see your data and copy it 
over to another drive (possibly a USB stick or external hard drive?).
