pop the CD drive out, this is normally quite easy, might be a slider or 
single screw under the laptop somewhere to release it. The laptop should 
boot fine without it and that will tell you what is gronking. I suspect 
it is the CD drive seeking, and possibly a hardware problem with the drive.
