So as you are all aware we did not get granted approval status which
we all had hoped for during this cycle as such we will not get a
guaranteed shipment of CD's for the purpose of distributing to
people interested in Ubuntu.

Nathan and I have been discussing the most cost-effective way of
getting CD's produced with professional results yet at a very low
cost to us since we (those who decide to contribute to the cost)
will have shoulder it.

Does anyone have any feedback or ideas?

Official CDs are available for sale in the Canonical store, at
roughly the
cost of media:

Do you think you'll actually be able to do them more cheaply than that
locally?

It actually would appear Canonical waives shipping price on CD's which
is actually pretty nice... But we are still talking $200+ for 200 CD's
I can get spindles of 100 CD's for like $15-20 and I'm not sure what
labels would cost... The biggest thing I am concerned about is burning
out by CD/DVD drive on my laptop.

As an addendum to the last email: You'd need to look into the support
for LightScribe on Ubuntu. I know it is possible, but the last time I
looked into it, some years ago, it was far from easy.

Thanks for this, I totally forgot I had a LightScribe drive or two and
media for them. I followed the instructions at the following blog and
it was quite easy:

You don't need to use -force-architecture anymore though!

Now I'm wondering if we can talk jvlb into hacking Ubuntu California's Origami CD sleeves design with our logo

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/CDSleeves

if so we can have maybe nathwill print a bunch and I will begin burning
CD's on Thursday in prep for the release party on Sunday :)
