Mine is a GeForce 6100 and my windows are now white now too. I'm not sure when they stopped being black as I had not tested it in awhile. I'm not sure exactly when this bug kicked in, but I know it's been around for at least a couple months.
Without composition the gnome panel tears every once awhile. Not sure if it has to do with whatever breaks composition though. And ya, Firefox activates it, along with Thunderbird and Openoffice.
