@madbiologist: Since the release is committed, I should have received 295.53 by default when I checked "Install 3rd party" software. What I received was 295.40 and even after updates, it was still the same. It never upgraded to 295.53 even from update manager (it showed it is up-to-date).
All other updates worked fine (I received Firefox update as well as other updates just fine from the update manager). The article you mentioned worked for me and installed 295.53. However, Unity3D is still very slow for me. I have a 6150 Nvidia card. If no other users are experiencing this, then I will file a bug.
