I can confirm complete freeze on 12.04 (no mouse, no keybord, no switch to tty possible)
It seems that the system freezes only when I run a virtualbox (with Windows 7, MS office application running) and additionally browse the web (firefox) outside the virtualbox. Although this might be coincidence or only one of possible triggers. System: Ubuntu Release 12.04 (precise) 64-bit Kernel Linux 3.2.0-32-generic GNOME 3.4.2 nvidia graphics driver version 295.40 Hardware: Dell Latitude E6520 8 GB memory Processor: Intel Core i7-2720QM CPU @ 2.20GHz × 8 graphics: NVIDIA NVS 4200M I had a look into kern.log.
