I have a lot of installs and running virtualbox machines and vmware
images even in parallel.
I noticed that what causes the instabilities must be related to kernel
version used - and whatever variant of Ubuntu (Xubuntu, Kubuntu,
Lubuntu and even several other distributions based on Ubuntu) you are
somehow using the official kernels. The official kernel of Ubuntu
currently is 3.2.0.32 which I didn't test so far (my last tests with a
lot of freezes were on 3.2.0.28 if I remember right). Therefore I
began trying different kernels. With Kernel 3.4 for example I did not
have any freeze issue over weeks!

Would be interesting, which kernel you are currently using on Arch.

BTW: I have learned yesterday, that it is better to use the kernels from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/ which are the
Ubuntu adopted variants of the mainline kernels at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ (the latter is the
transferred original kernel only).

I am currently on the Ubuntu adapted variant of kernel
3.5.0-18-generic - so far looks good but too early for a reliable
answer.

And the reason, why this is marked as Won't fix is because this bug
report already contains many similar effects but with very different
causes. This is why everybody should file a separate bug for the more
specific problem.

Best regards, Martin.
