I tested Alexander's patch, and although I'm not yet sure if it helps with the xfsettingsd crash, the approach is buggy. First I notice that 'Mirror displays' option is now disabled, and each time I switch from one option to the other, 4 instances of the display window are being opened. Overall, not the way to go.
