Hi Anton, additional information from my side (Lenovo T430/ Nvidia optimus GPU NVS 5400M (GF108))
With going back to older 5.19.x either - the previous ubuntu 22.10 latest 5.19.0-38-generic kernel. (untouched as far i know) - fresh installed 5.19.17-051917-generic mainline kernel using https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pimlie/ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh/master/ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh for installing. - Either 23.04 stock dkms-390 drivers - purged nvidia* and reinstalled Nvidia 390 manual installed from vendor .run file Nvidia is perfectly recognized, and does not throw errors, nvidia-smi shows the right thing. But as far i can see, when Xorg is actually using Nvidia, it locks-up (including keyboard), and needs kill -9 over ssh to get in control again. when bootend a 5.19.x kernel with nvidia support, having killed Xorg, and started by hand using Xorg -verbose 99 last thing it displays is: ``` <snip> 2524.313] (II) Initializing extension XVideo [ 2524.314] (II) Initializing extension XVideo-MotionCompensation [ 2524.314] (II) Initializing extension SELinux [ 2524.314] (II) SELinux: Disabled on system [ 2524.314] (II) Initializing extension XFree86-VidModeExtension [ 2524.314] (II) Initializing extension XFree86-DGA [ 2524.314] (II) Initializing extension XFree86-DRI [ 2524.314] (II) Initializing extension DRI2 [ 2524.315] (II) Initializing extension GLX [ 2524.315] (II) Initializing extension GLX [ 2524.315] (II) Indirect GLX disabled. ``` So yes, going back to boot an 5.19.x kernel is a step forward to enable Nvidia, but a locked-up Xorg isn't that nice, if you have no remote access to nicely recover from it. (Friday it took 8 hours to fsck my disk due to it, and feel lucky it actually recovered) I'll try to find out why/where Xorg Actually locks-up. the , need something better then the -verbose 99 option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2016459 Title: NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! , failed to copy vbios to system memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/2016459/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
