I'd like to point out that the behavior of the driver looks to me like there is a 512-pixel delay or advance in the timing of horizontal sync. At 1024x768 this means the origin of the screen is shifted over half the screen width, and at 800x600 this means the origin is near the right side of the screen - 512/600 of the screen width. At the next lower resolution the origin shifts farther, and wraps over to near the left side of the screen.
