@Chris: That's correct. In Karmic with the nv-driver I can only use the 
laptop's internal monitor, the external is not detected. When I use the 
nvidia-driver only the external monitor ist detected, the only screen I can 
select in the settings is the external monitor.
Shall I attach the dmesg, the lspci -vvnn, the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the 
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old from Karmic with the nv- as well as the nvidia-driver 
to help solve the problem?
