Hrm, tried to send an email about this yesterday, but can't seem to find it in an outbox - the woes of switching email clients...

Hi Chris,

Great to see someone playing with this... but a shiver went down my
spine when I saw "M2" -- things have come a long way since then. In
fact, you won't even recognize it! There are still a number of bugs,
but it is functional for the most part. My next major task is testing
the classifiers (only Quantile, Equal Interval, and Unique Interval for
the moment), and fixing the cases that still explode.
How about an M3 release like now then? If you've come a long way and it's not really worthwhile for anyone to test the latest Milestone release then there's no reason to not put a new one out. Release early and often, you'll get better feedback. I only really checked this out to be able to point my GeoServer users to a way to easily create SLD files, so while I could probably get set up on trunk, I can't put my users through that. So an M3 release can get you more beta testers, as I can point them your way. We're releasing 1.3.0 quite soon, and it'd be nice to have at least a mention in the docs of how to download 1.1M3 and create an SLD file for GeoServer.

So I'm super excited about this SLD editor, since I'll just be able to
tell geoserver users to go there, create their style, get the sld
export plug-in, and upload to geoserver (and indeed would like to
extend the sld export tool to go straight to geoserver upload, which
really shouldn't be too hard).

Yesterday I added the SLDValidation from Geoserver to the Advanced SLD
Editor -- it doesn't quite work yet, but when it does we'll definitely
have SLD which geoserver likes.
Cool. Though all the SLDValidation does is run through xerces, which just checks the xml against the schema. So it's just ensuring that it's valid SLD, according to the OGC's XML schema - any sld you produce really should be compliant.

best regards,

Chris

But I can't seem to ever get it to work. Errors seem to mostly occur
when I go to select the color stuff. Sometimes I can select the color
things, and then changing one of the other fields will make it fail.
Other times it's not until 'apply'. Sometimes I can get to apply, but
nothing seems to happen. Sorry this is so vague, but it seems to just
fail in a variety of ways.

That's consistent with M2 -- which only works for numeric attributes
which it likes the distribution of. Try out the trunk version -- it
still has issues, but there are some treats like import/export... and
more functional sld creation than before.

Cheers,
Cory.
