Hmmm. Trying to think what this could be... Is the image large? If so you're going to be out of luck until uDig 1.2 is released because imagery is loaded into memory in uDig 1.1. Although it is possible that it is having a problem with the orientation. I'm don't really know how robust that version of the World+Image plugin is.

Tell you what. I'm going to release a M0 release of udig 1.2 to demonstrate the improvements in Raster support next week. Why don't you try that out when its out and let me know if that helps.

Jesse,

The error message I get in the status bar when I mouse over the image is:

"Error: null"

I'm almost positive that the world file and image file are fine, as
they are working in AutoCAD Map. I wonder if UDig might be choking on
an image whose orientation isn't due north? Is this possible, or is
there something else going on?

Am I doing something wrong? Would it help if I send the image and
world file along for a test?

Thanks,

P.S. - I really like that the UDig GUI is built on Eclipse RCP. (One
of the OpenJUMP developers, Paul Austin is doing something similar for
OpenJUMP using the InfoNode Docking Windows library.
http://www.infonode.net/index.html?idw ) It makes the MDI type of GUI
a lot more palatable. (Or maybe this is just because I use Eclipse as
my main Java IDE. If only it would get a decent and free port of
Matisse.)

I tried out the polygon digitizing tools in UDig as well. It doesn't
use the "rubberband" technique that is used in OpenJUMP. This is more
natural for me, because the "rubberband" technique is very "un-CAD".
:]

I need to pay more attention to what you guys are doing with UDig,
because I really like some of it. I hope you guys don't mind the
feedback.

HI,

click on the layer and look at the status line of uDig it should tell
you the error. If it is truncated hover the mouse over it and it
should show the whole message.

Hey Guys.

I'm having trouble loading some images into UDig. I've tried loading both TIFF files and JPG files. I know the images are valid, because I
can open them in other programs.

I have attached a screenshot from UDig after the images are supposedly loaded. I get a little red box with an "X' on the corner of each image
icon, which I believe is telling me there was an error loading the
image.

However, I don't know what the error is. Does UDig present this
information to the user? What problems might UDig be having with the
image files?

Thanks,

The Sunburned Surveyor

P.S. - I didn't have a problem loading a JPG file whose alignment was
due north. Perhaps UDig is having trouble with images that are not
aligned due north?
