I think this is a must, so that users get used to one single idea of Processing/Service/Whatever Area. If that applies, I will be glad to support it and also change my implementation if something better comes up. Did you take into account that such a region will also need to have a CRS associated? And if aligned with the processing area, also a grid resolution.
