You don't need specific hardware to broadcast wifi, persay. As long as it's compatible with your wifi card, it's compatible. You can get Linux APs/Routers, in which case go for Linksys (WRT54G, iirc).
In terms of getting wifi to work, you will need to make sure your wifi card is installed properly. If you don't have drivers for it yet, if it's intel pro set, you can get their linux drivers. Or you can always go the way of ndiswrapper (I prefer intel's drivers of ndiswrapper). If you want to use WPA for encryption, there's a great WPA Supplicant (I believe this was the one: http://hostap.epitest.fi/wpa_supplicant/). -Russ > -----Original Message----- > From: UM Linux User's Group [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf > Of Alan Bromborsky > Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2006 1:04 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [UM-LINUX] wifi > > I have installed gentoo on my dell inspiron 9400 and wish to use the > wifi adaptor so my wife will stop tripping over the ethernet cable.
