I can think of a number of solutions, depending on the exact situation and the hardware available. Lets see if I can sort them by tech-level.
-Shouting to a guy across the room with a mouse... "Hey, you... yeah... up a little more... no, your other up" -Really long stick -Really long PS/2 cable -Really long USB extender -As Mihail suggested, bluetooth has decent range. There are other wireless mice as well -There are a number of presentation-style clickers with joystick-based mice in them. Not sure the range. -Use a notebook on your side of the room. Connect them wirelessly and use VNC -Use a notebook on your side of the room. Connect them wirelessly and use Synergy2 -Use a smartphone. I've heard of remote control programs for the iPhone. They probably exist for others as well -Use a laser. I'm not certainly how, but I'm sure that provides a good jumping-off point. -Fold the room's space such that being across the room from the notebook is also adjacent to it. Seriously, what do you mean by "control xpdf"? ... If all you need is next and back, there are lots of presentation clickers out there. Some are just cheapo IR based that you could build yourself pretty easy. ~John On Fri, Sep 4, 2009 at 9:53 AM, J.
