I distinctly remember going on a school trip from Girls¹ High to see the new
University City High School. I also remember how hard the community fought
to have this nice, new school with pool and TV studio in their neighborhood.

I quite remember being shocked to my foundation when I went to do a teaching
stint there in 1982 at how the place had deteriorated in just the ten years
or so years since I first visited there as student. There were students
there then who would smear feces in the classroom, wires hanging from the
ceiling, pool closed; never found out what happened to the TV Studio.

No, I do not think a new building would be he answer until the students
there respect it enough to not destroy it. I was at UC fifteen years ago
and I think things in the district have gotten worse since.
