Are you saying, then, he advised you to answer a direct question when
courteously posed by others, in the course of a conversation? That's a wise
recommendation on his part. You should abide by it in every post you write.

my high school english teacher had a good piece of advice for us, when we
asked how to answer his essay questions that had no right or wrong answer:
'tell me everything you know', he said.
