What can I say? I made a mistake, and I'm owning up to it. It was an honest mistake-I didn't intentionally misinterpret what I saw, but I didn't do enough investigation to understand it correctly. I'm sorry that you're unable to accept that. It does sound as though we have some common ground, though-can we agree that anonymous letters like that inhibit communication, rather than facilitating it?
