OK, I'll check this out.

The ebuild usese the local mysql binary rather than the binary bundled
with slimserver. However, slimserver creates its own instance of
mysql, so you will have several instances of mysql running. Right now,
I don't know how easy to get slimserver to use the 'system' instance of
mysql -- it might be as simple as editing slimserver.prefs to use the
local mysql as the dbisource (although this means that a password,
username and database would have to be created for slimserver).

I'm holding off putting it into portage proper until a few of the bugs
are worked out. A layman-style portage overlay is definitely a good
short/medium term option, but I haven't used layman yet and so I don't
know when/if this will happen. In principle it should be possible to
add the ebuilds to the SlimDevices subversion repository and then use
the repository as an overlay.

Cheers,
Tom
