Well it certainly helps to have a Unix background. On the other hand, when I look at what I've had to add or tweak to get it to run, it's really very little. Modify bootlocal.sh to mount my network music drive, configure the backups, dsl password - must be more, but not much. The key is only using it as a SS host and not trying to run a whole bunch of other stuff at the same time. Though with only 256MB for both processes and file-systems, I'd have a hard time finding space for anything else!
