Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to kill the process using Webmin's processes module.
I have no Pulseaudio or error messages, and Alsamixer shows the sound is on and up to 100%, but I still get very little volume from SoftSqueeze. I'm starting to think there may be a hardware problem--but the software detects the motherboard sound chip and shows that it's correctly installed. As always, I appreciate any suggestions. --Dean L.
