I've run squeezecenter on completely under-powered machines like P2/P3 ~500mhz. Performance was perfectly acceptable for medium-sized (200 album) collections and a bit of to-FLAC transcoding. The only thing you really need is about 256MB of ram for the server to run in.
BTW, bogomips is just like it says. Bogus. It's a completely useless non-metric of anything.
