Yes that is correct, actually I already have made an option so you press the button "save config file to USB" then your working config file is copied and renamed to newconfig.cfg on an attached USB flas drive. If you need it now, I can upload it, otherwise I prefer to wait a few days, so a few more tweaks can be included. Then when you want to update piCorePlayer you burn the new version to your SD card. Attach your USB flash drive and boot.
