I have a RPi+HIFIBERRY dac with analogue output. The difference vs. internal dac is tremendous. On Hifiberry site they say that isn't capable to drive headphones but occasionally I use my sennheiser hd540 reference without trouble (the maximum volume is not so loud but the quality is awesome). The volume through LMS is compulsory if you use the original Logitech Receiver with a DIY amp without the volume knob.
